Mt. Vernon graduate and Louisiana-Monroe transfer Michael Ertel committed to UAB over the weekend. Ertel will play for assistant coach Ryan Cross at UAB as he left the ULM staff to join Andy Kennedy. (Pictured: Ertel early in his high school career)
After three stellar seasons at ULM, Ertel became a major target on the transfer scene. He averaged 16.2 points per game as a junior. For his career, Ertel shot 38 percent from three-point range.
I loved Monroe, and they did a ton for me. I just thought I could do something different for my final year. I could try and play at a higher level and have some high-major amenities. I loved my time in Monroe and wouldn’t change it for anything, but I am just looking for new things and how I will fit in at a new school.
Ertel heard from all levels of colleges before picking UAB. He was contacted by coaches from the Big Ten, Big East, and SEC.
Ertel is a graduate transfer from ULM, so he will be eligible to play next season.
