The 2021 college commitments continue as Homestead's Luke Goode committed to Illinois today. He had offers from Xavier, Louisville, Northwestern, Michigan State, and other before selecting Illinois.
Goode's recruitment took a step forward last summer when he played with 17U Indy Heat. Playing up a year, he displayed the ability to lead, distribute the ball, and hit open shots. His recruitment went to a different level after that.
Goode is a natural leader. He was a three-year quarterback for Homestead's football team. He carries that over to the basketball court as he directs and engages with his teammates. His intangibles separate Goode from many of his peers.
Speaking of football, it sounds like he would have been a high-major football prospect had he taken that path. Many of his immediate and extended family played Big Ten football. He nearly stepped away from football last year but decided to play for his friends. Goode finished his junior season with 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions. That said, he always made it clear that basketball was the way he wanted to go.
On the hardwood, Goode averaged 17.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game this season. He did a great job of finishing in the lane and drawing fouls. Goode shot 78 percent on 128 free throw attempts this season. As the focal point of the offense, Goode only shot 32 percent from deep. He has proven to be a better shooter than that in the past. His history combined with his free throw shooting, Goode will bounce back as a senior and beyond.
Goode joins Khristian Lander (Indiana), Caleb Furst (Purdue), Pierce Thomas (Butler), Jayden Taylor (Butler), Lincoln Hale (Indiana State), and JR Konieczny (Notre Dame) as 2021 Indiana prospects that have made a college decision.
