On Thursday, South Bend Riley graduate Damezi Anderson announced his transfer from Indiana University. As a sophomore, he played in 18 games for the Hoosiers this season. (Anderson from high school)
In his two seasons, Anderson played in 39 games for IU. He made major strides as a defender this year. He displayed the ability to defend multiple positions. Despite scoring 1,949 points in high school, Anderson was never comfortable on the offensive end at Indiana. In his two seasons, he shot 23.1 percent from three-point range. That was a strong point for him in high school.
Anderson is receiving D1 interest and remains open to all opportunities. A few schools that have jumped out early are Valparaiso, Southern Illinois, and Grand Canyon. Valpo has the obvious connection. It's only about 40 miles from South Bend. Grand Canyon recently hired Bryce Drew as its head coach. Drew then placed Ed Schilling on his staff. Schilling was at Indiana for Anderson's recruitment and his freshman year.
It will be interesting to see where Anderson lands. By all reports, he loved Indiana and tried to do everything that the staff wanted. If he continues on that developmental path, Anderson will do well at a lower D1 level.
