Monday, 2021 guard Michael Eley announced that he will attend Elevation Prep during his senior year.
Until recently, Indiana was shielded from players leaving for the prep school route, especially as underclassmen. Those days appear to be over with players like Jaren Jackson Jr., Keion Brooks, Jaden Ivey, and others leaving their communities for prep school options.
The first 2021 Indiana native to make a prep school decision is Michael Eley. The Fort Wayne Snider guard is going to newly minted Elevation Prep in Fort Wayne. Eley has scholarship offers from Miami of Ohio, Ball State, IUPUI, and Evansville.

As a junior, Eley helped Snider to a sectional title. Overall, it was an up and down junior season for Eley. He averaged 21.2 points and six rebounds per game, but his shooting was inconsistent. For the season, Eley only shot 31 percent from three-point range. As a freshman, Eley shot 44 percent from deep, but it dropped to 35 percent as a sophomore.
Eley has the physical tools to play at the mid-major level or even higher. He’s six-foot-three with upper body strength. He’s a good but not great athlete. He jumps well, but his first step and lateral quickness are average.
The biggest thing for his college recruitment and production is his outside shooting. He must be a good to great shooter to be a successful college player for a winning program. That’s what he needs to prove in the years to come.
