Indiana Basketball Source looks at the latest offer for Connor Essegian, the run of talent IU-Kokomo has made, and Donnie Bowling's hire at Anderson High School. (Pictured: Julien Hunter)
2022 Central Noble guard Connor Essegian was offered by Southern Indiana. This comes as no surprise since Stan Gouard and company offered Essegian while coaching at UIndy. He also has a D1 offer from Purdue-Fort Wayne.
Essegian is an elite shooter. As a six-foot-three guard, he comes off screens, gets his feet set, and makes shots with accuracy that few high school players can. To do those things as a sophomore is especially impressive.
With his shooting ability and feel for the game, Essegian should receive plenty of D1 offers in the next two years. It will be interesting to see how high he can take his talents.
IU-Kokomo went 27-7 this season, and it looks like the Cougars are poised for more success. Recently, IU-Kokomo added Attucks point guard Chris Chinn. Although undersized, Chinn is ultra quick and plays with toughness. The Cougars also added former Tindley and Pike standout Hunter White. He has spent the last two seasons at Lake Land College in Illinois.
IU-Kokomo might have the steal of the 2020 class with New Albany’s Julien Hunter. Hunter battled injuries throughout his high school career, but he is a great athlete and finishes at an insane rate. If he is healthy, Hunter will be a game changer for IU-Kokomo.
Today, Eric Echelbarger added Lapel graduate Luke Richardson. He played in five games for Saginaw Valley State last season as a freshman. He’s strong power forward that can step away from the basket for an occasional outside shot. Richardson adds a different dynamic to the IU-Kokomo with his physicality.
*Updated 5/13/20 at 8:45 pm* IU-Kokomo has also signed Danville's Dillon Ware and Warren Central's Hunter Jackson. Both players had plenty of D2 and small college attention. Ware helped Danville be one of the top 3A teams in the state with his size, athleticism, and versatile skill set. He should make an instant impact for IU-Kokomo. Jackson bounced to many different high schools but proved that he can play at each stop. Jackson's shooting has progressed in the last year. That should bode well for him at the college level.
Donnie Bowling was hired at Anderson High School. Bowling coached at Indianapolis Manual for the previous five years. He was at Indianapolis Shortridge before that. He has done a good job at both stops. With Anderson’s young talent, Bowling should do well with the Indians.
There are still high-profile jobs open – Fishers, East Chicago Central, Pendleton Heights, Westview. Warsaw was filled by Matt Moore which left Fishers open.
