On Friday night, 2021 Hamilton Heights guard Gus Etchison committed to Western Michigan. He had offers from Incarnate Word and IUPUI as well.
Etchison took his official visit to Western Michigan back in the middle of February. Steve Hawkins was the head coach at the time. After the season, WMU assistant coach Clayton Bates was named the head coach. That continuity helped land Etchison this early.
He made his pledge to the MAC school via Twitter.

Indiana Basketball Source was at Etchison's 56-point game against Mt. Vernon this season. Here's a look at that game.
Etchison is a natural scorer. That mentality is in his blood. He finds ways to get buckets – slashing to the basket, transition plays, pull-ups in the mid-range, and deep range. His outside shooting has made major strides in the last year. He shot 37 percent on 162 attempts this season. For Etchison to be successful at WMU, his outside shooting will need to be the backbone of his game.
With no club basketball, 2021 prospects have been making college decisions at an early rate. There are usually only a couple of senior-to-be prospects at this point. So far, Khristian Lander, Caleb Furst, JR Konieczny, Jayden Taylor, Luke Goode, Lincoln Hale, and Pierce Thomas have committed for basketball. To boot, Colson Montgomery is committed to Indiana for baseball, and Brady Hunt is headed to Ball State for football. It is truly an unprecedented time in recruiting.
