IUPUI was in the midst of a coaching search when the pandemic hit. The Indiana University network placed a hiring freeze on all institutions as IUPUI's search was winding down. After a few months in a stall pattern, IUPUI has decided to give interim coach Byron Rimm another season at the helm. He was named the interim coach in August of 2019. (Photo via IUPUIJags.com)
Late last summer, former coach Jason Gardner was relieved of his duties. That kept IUPUI from performing a full search. Rimm was the associate head coach under Gardner, and the Jaguars elevated Rimm to the interim head coach role. Last season, IUPUI went 7-25.
IUPUI has a few main pieces back for the upcoming season. Marcus Burk averaged 21.3 points per game behind his excellent three-point shooting. He is entering his senior year after transferring from Campbell University. Last year's second leading scorer - Jaylen Minnett - is also back. The Terre Haute South graduate averaged 16.6 points per game last year. The other main piece returning for the Jags is Elyjah Goss. He averaged 11.5 rebounds per game last year.
It will be an uphill fight for IUPUI this season, but the returning players should give IUPUI fans optimism.
