2021 power forward Trey Kaufman has received an offer from North Carolina. Over the years, the Tar Heels have offered many Indiana natives with players like Tyler Zeller, Sean May, and Eric Montross playing at UNC.
The Silver Creek and Indiana Elite 2021 prospect has plenty of high-profile offers. Indiana and Purdue have been recruiting Kaufman at a frenzied pace for many years now. The UNC offer will certainly scare fans of the Hoosiers and Boilermakers. North Carolina is coming off a subpar (14-19) season, but Roy Williams is always tough to beat. The bright side for in-state fans is that Romeo Langford and Trayce Jackson-Davis both turned down UNC offers.
Kaufman is now a consensus top-40 player nationally. With Indiana, Purdue, UNC, Virigina in the picture, will Kentucky offer? That's the biggest question left in Kaufman's recruitment. That would be the ultimate game-changer.
Over the years, Kaufman has shown steady improvement in his game. Heading into his senior year, Kaufman has developed into an excellent three-point shooter. As a junior, he shot 40 percent on 82 three-point attempts for Silver Creek. At the college level, that projects to be his biggest strength.
Kaufman was Indiana's 2020 Gatorade Player of the Year. A rare honor for a junior in Indiana.
