Silver Creek's Trey Kaufman committed to Purdue University over Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina and Indiana State.
After a close to the vest recruitment, Kaufman's decision finally leaked out Thursday night. He still had a full announcement on YouTube where he broke down his career and recruitment. "Their system and the way they like to play," Kaufman told KJHI about Purdue sticking out. "That best suits me and the way I like to play."
Kaufman also talked about helping Purdue vie for Big Ten and NCAA championships.
"I was watching the game when Purdue played Virginia, and hopefully getting back to that place and getting to a point where we can compete for an NCAA title."
Kaufman on his future role with Purdue.
"Facilitating for others, being a scoring option. I think a big thing is not just being a four (power forward) but being a three (small forward). I think that's where my body is going."
Kaufman joins Blackhawk Christian's Caleb Furst in Purdue's 2021 recruiting class. It will interesting to see how those play off each other in the Purdue system. Kaufman has been more of the shooter to this point, but both players have shown the ability to step away from the basket.
Kaufman won the 2020 Gatorade Player of the Year in Indiana. It's a rare feat for the a junior. His Silver Creek was one of the favorites in 3A before the pandemic ended the 2020 state tournament after winning the 2019 3A title. Behind Kaufman, Kooper Jacobi, and Branden Northern, Silver Creek will be one of the 3A state title favorites in 2020-2021 as well.
