Barr-Reeve power forward Curt Hopf has committed to Bellarmine. The 2021 prospect sat out last high school season after transferring to BR from Forest Park. He had a good club season with Indiana Elite-Team Indiana to bolster his recruitment. Now, he is headed to Bellarmine as the programs moves to the D1 level.
Hopf's recruiting journey was one with a few twists. He received early attention from programs like Indiana and Purdue. His transfer from Forest Park to Barr-Reeve slowed his recruitment a bit since he had to sit out his junior year. He rebounded (pun intended) well this summer to spark new interest. Along with Bellarmine, Lincoln Memorial (D2 power), Murray State, Kent State, and Duquesne showed interest in Hopf.
This summer, Hopf excelled has a rebounder and paint scorer with Indiana Elite-TI. He's a big, strong forward and he used his muscle to produce. Earlier in his career, Hopf wanted to play on the perimeter more than be a rebounder. He changed his mindset to being an enforcer on the glass and it took his production to a new tier. Hopf has proven to be a solid spot-up shooter, but he was able to change games with his rebounding and paint finishing.
Hopf joins two Kentucky natives in Bellarmine's 2021 class - Ben Johnson and Ayden Mudd. Johnson was impressive when Indiana Basketball Source saw him play early in his high school career as a shooter and overall playmaker. Bellarmine also has Indiana natives Dylan Penn, Sam DeVault, and Drew Comer on its current roster. Bellarmine went 20-8 last season and made the D2 tournament before the postseason was canceled.
Barr-Reeve is going to be a favorite in Class A this season. Hopf, Hagen Knepp, and Brycen Graber are a great trio that will give BR a chance in every game.
