Xavier Ringo has been the biggest surprise of the spring. He played well last fall in the Metro Indy Basketball League, but then I did not get a chance to see him during the high school season. Ringo has been consistent all spring. He is lightning quick, makes good decisions with the ball, and can shoot the ball from the outside. His height is going to be a concern at 5-9, but he makes up for it with his quickness and explosive ability off the dribble. He is going to be a good mid-major player down the road.
Rashaun Richardson had some buzz around him coming into the spring, but he exploded on the scene during the second half against Grassroots Indiana of the IndyBall.com tournament. He has grown about 6 inches in the last year and is still learning to play with his new size. He is long, athletic, and has a nice touch. Richardson is very thin right now and is inconsistent. He has a chance to be really good though.
Aaron Korn was a player that I had not seen or heard much about heading into the spring club season. He is a true 6-4 with good length and athleticism. He is really good off the dribble getting to the basket or pulling up for a mid-range jumper. I think his athleticism is the thing that has surprised me the most. Korn has consistently gotten to the basket against solid athletes. He also always plays within himself on a very structured Fieldhouse Elite team. I’m interested to see how he plays in July and how he develops over the next few years.
Jordan Garnett isn’t a surprise in terms of exposure. I’ve seen him a lot of the last two years…I even saw him multiple times this high school season. This spring he has shown off his perimeter skills though. Those skills have really improved. They aren’t quite where they need to be, but the jump in skill level has been significant over the last year. If he continues to improve, he will be a nice combo forward for the low-major level. He is tough, plays with energy, and is very athletic. Garnett thrives in the up-tempo style that his Spiece Indy Ice-Thompson team plays. Warren Central is more of a defensive, half-court team so he doesn’t get to run and finish in the open court very often. {/iACL}
