Indiana State sophomore and Lawrence Central High School graduate Jake LaRavia announced on Twitter that he is transferring to Wake Forest.
With
Indiana State letting head coach Greg Lansing go last week, LaRavia decided to enter the transfer portal. That left the option of returning to Terre Haute possible, but the
Indianapolis native heard from schools like
Indiana,
Butler,
Xavier, Wichita State, Nevada, and many others before picking the ACC school.
In high school, LaRavia went from a role player as a junior to a D1 prospect during the summer going into his senior year. Playing on a loaded Lawrence Central team with Dre Davis,
Nijel Pack, and others, LaRavia often stole the show. His senior campaign landed him on the
Indiana All-Star team. Before his senior season, LaRavia signed with Southern
Illinois-Edwardsville. After that season, SIU-E fired Jon Harris. LaRavia opened his recruitment, and schools like
Purdue and Wichita State expressed interest, but he picked
Indiana State.
As a sophomore at ISU, LaRavia averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds. For his shot attempts, he lived at the free-throw line. That greatly aided his offensive efficiency. His advanced rebounding numbers were excellent as well.
Wake Forest needs help. The Demon Deacons went 6-16 in Steve Forbes' first season. Wake Forest struggled on both ends, but its biggest weakness was scoring inside the arc. LaRavia should help that area. The Demond Deacons shot a ton of three-pointers this season. That is something that LaRavia featured in high school but did not look for much at
Indiana State. It seems like he will be able to look for his outside shot more with Wake Forest.
Academically, Wake Forest is a good fit for LaRavia. He was an elite student in high school, and Wake Forest is a top-tier institution.
