(Waddell was offered by
Purdue and Furman on Monday)
Brian Waddell helped Carmel win the 2021 IHSAA 4A boys basketball title on Saturday then was offered by
Purdue University on Monday.
The senior guard finished his high school career on a high note with 20 points and 12 rebounds. He was fantastic for Carmel all postseason and averaged 15.7 points per game for the year. His three-pointer in the fourth quarter swung the lead back to Carmel. He also scored at the rim late in regulation to break a tie game. Waddell started to turn heads with the way he ended his junior year.
Much like this season, he was playing his best to end the year. At that point, D1 programs started to track him. Incarnate Word was the first D1 school to offer Waddell last year. Wright State,
Indiana State,
Miami of Ohio, Canisius, and Furman followed suit. He visited Furman today on his dime without coaches leading the tour since the NCAA is still in a dead recruiting period.
With the
Purdue offer, the Boilermakers are the team to beat, but Waddell says he is still weighing his options. There is no timetable for him to make a college decision, yet.
Waddell's father, Matt, played at
Purdue. He scored over 1,000 career points for the Boilermakers. Throughout the season, there were plenty of
Purdue fans hoping that Matt Painter would extend an offer to the Carmel guard.
The
Purdue offer certainly changed the game in Waddell's recruitment.
Indiana Basketball Source will be tracking it closely.
