(AJ Dancler had a strong weekend)
Over the last two days, the Terrific 24 has seen plenty of head-turning performances. Here are the players that stood out the most.
Beyond Ball’s Drew Kingery (2023) was the weekend’s revelation. The six-foot-three guard showed he can do it all – automatic from three, put the ball on the floor, score over shot blockers in the lane, finish above the rim, defend. He does a good job of moving without the ball. Kingery is ultra-aggressive on the offensive end, but that did not lead to forced shots. He is a high-major prospect without any offers, yet.
Kingery’s teammate Brayden Drea (2023) was great against All-Ohio Red. He was able to consistently drive into the lane for floaters and shots. Also, he passes well and was able to find cutters while driving to the hoop. His outside shot looked excellent as well.
Joey Brown (2023) was George Hill All-Indy’s most consistent player all weekend. Brown’s production was GHAI’s only lifeline in a couple of games. He is a lanky six-foot-five guard, but he proved to be most productive around the rim. His rebounding, especially on the offensive end, stood out all weekend. He had multiple putbacks against Team Teague to keep GHAI in the game. He needs to continue to produce game to game, but Brown has the tools to be an excellent prospect.
At the 17U level, Sean Jones (2022) was the quickest player in the event. The All-Ohio Red guard is explosive with the ball in his hands and has breakdown skills to go with it. Jones was unstoppable going to the rim. Once at the basket, he finished with regularity. From the outside, he knocked down a few outside shots against D1
Indiana with perfect rotation on his shot. He pulled up on the fast break for a three and nailed it. He is a bit undersized, but Jones makes up for it with his elite quickness.
For the All-Ohio Red 16U team, Devin Royal (2023) saved the day against Beyond Ball. Royal had a huge second half to power AOR to the win. He is a big-body forward that knows how to score in every position. He is tremendous in the mid-range by using his size to shoot over defenders. He is also capable off the dribble and in the paint. Royal finishes through contact with ease. He currently only has an offer from Ohio.
Macoyion Brown (2022) came off the bench for the 4A runner-up Lawrence North this season. He came into the game to get buckets, and Brown displayed the ability to do that over a longer duration. Against All-Ohio Select, he scored off the dribble and from three. He was unstoppable in the first half as he scored 22 points. Brown finished with 35 in the loss.
Andrew Mason (2021) is an explosive guard playing for the
Louisville Magic. The unsigned senior put on a show in transition and off the dribble. He finished over and through defenders at the rim. He has a couple of NAIA offers, but with his size and athleticism, it looks like he can play at a higher level.
Jerome Brewer Jr. (2022) was dominant in the paint. He is an excellent athlete while being strongly built. Those two things allowed him to finish at the basket regularly. Brewer also showed game in the mid-range, and his outside shot looked decent. He is taking a post-graduate year at
Taylor Made Prep next year.
For Team Teague, AJ Dancler (2023) was stellar throughout the weekend. The Southport guard shot well throughout a few games. He has good size and is a solid athlete, but his shooting is the best part of his game. Dancler made tough shots throughout the event. He is a player that could push himself into some D1 offers this summer.
Anthony Ball (2023) only played with Team Teague on Friday night, but he made it a memorable one. He took the action at GHAI and produced at a high level. He is a strong and athletic power forward that is aggressive around the rim. Ball finished over and around defenders throughout the game. His inside play pushed Team Teague to the win.
Like Ball, Billy Smith (2022) and his
Indiana Elite-North team only played on Friday night. The Brebeuf guard is known as a shooter, and he made a few on Friday, but he put the ball on the floor with success. He was able to attack off the bounce and finish in traffic. If he continues to finish at a high level, Smith will be tough to stop.
Collin Comer (2022) and Jaylen Fairman (2021) each had good showings for D1
Indiana throughout the event. Comer stepped up as a scorer this weekend. He has always been a good shooter, but Comer had a few impressive transition finishes above the rim this weekend. He handled pressure and athleticism well. Fairman has played great the last two weeks as a ball-handler and shot creator. The unsigned senior is a good athlete that makes a lot of shots off the dribble. Over the last two weekends, he has elevated his college projection greatly.
