Jarace Walker
Saturday was a full day of Under Armour Association action for
Indiana Basketball Source. Here is a look at the standout players from the first day of UAA play
.
Jaxon Edwards (2022 Cathedral) led the biggest upset of the day as D1
Indiana beat a loaded Team Thrill squad 56-52. Edwards displayed his fantastic athleticism on his way to 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Edwards did a little bit of everything as D1
Indiana jumped on Thrill early and never let up. Edwards has the physical tools and skill base to attract a ton of D1 attention in June and July.
Noah Gordon (2021 Mt. Vernon) took the action right at the talented bigs of Team Thrill. Gordon used his strength as he created contact in the lane. He carved out space for rebounds and buckets against stout defenders. Gordon is a tremendous vertical athlete as well. He showed that he could produce against big-time talents.
Jaylen Fairman (2021 Jeffersonville) did the dirty work for D1
Indiana. From a guard spot, he rebounded well, handled the pressure, and distributed the ball. Fairman is playing well for D1
Indiana this spring. If he opts for the post-graduate route, D1 programs should begin tracking Fairman now.
Braden Smith (2022 Westfield) led a significant comeback against Team Charlotte. Grand Park Premier trailed by double figures to Team Charlotte before Smith pushed GPP back into it. Smith created most of the offense with his drives to the basket, shooting, and playmaking for others as he scored 15 of his 24 points in the second half. The
Purdue-bound guard produced against the big, athletic defenders he has done most of the spring.
Joey Hart (2023 Linton-Stockton) couldn’t find a rhythm until the second half. Grand Park Premier, as a whole, could not get a shot to drop against the
Wisconsin Playground Club. Hart helped GPP stay in the game with his shooting. He knocked down a few triples to keep GPP within striking distance, but they could not get over the hump.
Cal Klesmit (2023 Neenah HS, Wisc.) carried the
Wisconsin Playground Club offense early against Grand Park Premier. The lefty knows how to score. He found buckets in transition, off the dribble, and spotting up. Klesmit produced like that in each viewing this spring. He is slightly undersized, but Klesmit can play.
Max Burton (2022 Williamston HS, Mich.) showcased his skill set for a second consecutive week in front of
Indiana Basketball Source. Burton is a big forward that shoots from distance with consistency. He also made plays off the dribble and converted in the mid-range. Burton moves his feet well for his size. With his size and skill set, Burton should see his recruitment spike soon. He impressed for Grand Rapids Storm against Kingdom Hoops.
Brendon Moss (2022
Minnesota Prep) continues to perform. The lefty guard is smooth off the dribble and spotting up from three. He scored in both areas – slashing off the dribble and camping behind the three-point line. He plays within himself, makes good decisions, and takes good shots. He impressed
Indiana Basketball Source at the Run ‘N Slam as well.
Will Shaver (2022 Oak Mountain, Ala.) is forming a reputation behind his rebounding and skill level, and he displayed both against West Coast Elite-Nor Cal. At 6’10”, Shaver moves excellent and has excellent hands. He was quick to the ball during rebounds and defensively. Offensively, Shaver scored off both shoulders.
Caleb Foster (2023 Oak Hill Academy) dominated going to the basket. He is a good athlete with upper body strength and a tight handle. Once into the lane, Foster finished at a high level through contact and over defenders. He is a 6’4” guard, so he can see and finish over defenders. He is a top-tier prospect in 2023.
Jarace Walker (2022 IMG Academy) is a big, strong forward that rebounds well in traffic, can handle the ball in traffic, and make outside shots. He was best as a rebounder and slasher in the two games that
Indiana Basketball Source watched. Walker also excelled as a high-post passer against zone defenses. He picked apart late-rotating defenses. His shot was inconsistent on Saturday, but it should be a strength in the future.
Antonio Hamlin (2022 Combine Academy) provided the outside shooting for Team Thrill against D1
Indiana. The powerfully built guard buried a few triples to get the Thrill offense jumpstarted. Before that, Thrill's offense stalled against the trapping D1 defense. Hamlin handled the ball well and moved it along the perimeter to the other Thrill players.
Culearic Davis (2022 Bradley Tech, Wisc.) lived at the rim against Nova Village. The lanky wing attacked in transition and slashed to the basket in the half-court. With his size and length, Davis finished play after player above the rim. He led a double-figure comeback in the second half.
Maximus Nelson (2022 Appleton North, Wisc.) showcased his shooting ability all day Saturday. The sweet-shooting forward also mixes it up well on the boards as he is not afraid to be physical. Nelson should be a hot commodity in June and July with his size, shooting, and motor.
