2023 Heritage Christian and Indy Nets guard Myles Colvin committed to
Purdue University a day before the July evaluation period. The rising junior picked up offers from
Indiana,
Butler, and Tulane after June 15.
Miami of Ohio and
IUPUI offered him earlier.
Colvin posted big numbers as a sophomore at Heritage Christian. In three games that
Indiana Basketball Source saw of HC and Colvin, he averaged 20.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He shot 8-16 from three in those games, keyed by a 5-9 performance against Tindley. Colvin has an excellent shooting stroke, and it should be a strength for the rest of his playing career.
In addition to his shooting, Colvin possesses ideal size and vertical athleticism. He towers over high school competition for a guard, and it projects well to the next level. The rising junior also continues to get better athletically. He had many highlight dunks during the sophomore season and June, even in the halfcourt.
Purdue was the first power conference team to jump on Colvin. The Boilers offered him while on an unofficial visit on June 1. That was the first day that prospects could take official or unofficial visits to D1 campuses since March 2020.
Along with the early offer,
Purdue had a deep connection to Colvin’s family. Myles’ father, Rosevelt, was a star football player at
Purdue before playing in the NFL, and Myles’ sister, Raven, will be a freshman on
Purdue’s women’s volleyball team this year as well. The connections were abundant.
The upside of Colvin is excellent, especially if his shooting makes strides. He is an excellent spot-up shooter now and is more than capable with a rhythm dribble. Suppose Colvin begins to make shots while on the move; his game will go to a new tier. As a young member of the 2023 class, Colvin appears to be still growing. If he adds a couple of more inches to his height, that will also improve his long-term projection.
Colvin is the first in-state 2023 prospect to make a college decision. Also, he is
Purdue’s first 2023 commitment. The Boilers have
Fletcher Loyer and Braden Smith committed in the 2022 class.
