The Indy Heat teams are participating in the Nike EYBL Peach Jam for the next two weeks in North Augusta, South Carolina. Here is a recap of the 17U and 16U Tuesday games.
The Indy Heat 17s jumped on BABC early and held them off for the 83-69 victory. Each player contributed in a significant way to begin the 2021 Peach Jam.
Fletcher Loyer scored with a few leak-out transition buckets mixed with spot-up threes throughout the game. It did not seem like BABC had a scouting report on Loyer as they left him completely open on a handful of possessions. However, more often than not, he had time to set up and drill shots. Loyer finished with 27 points on 5-9 three-point shooting.
Tae Davis slashed to the basket from the mid-post. He finished well but did not force it. Davis found
CJ Gunn and Loyer for open shots a few times in the first half. However, when attacking the basket and looking to finish through contact, Davis is a tough player to stop.
Indiana-bound guard
CJ Gunn performed well in his Peach Jam debut. He tallied ten points, five rebounds, and four assists. It could have been even more as he had two outside shots behind the high school three-point line but inside the college line that the EYBL uses. Gunn also just missed a colossal tip dunk. Nevertheless, it was a strong showing for the Lawrence North product.
Luke Hunger was the bright spot for BABC. The big-bodied post finished through contact, rebounding, and dishing the ball to teammates. He is not the most athletic player, but Hunger was able to produce in all areas.
The Indy Heat 16s suffered a rough overtime loss against Team Takeover. Indy Heat took a three-point lead with a minute to go in regulation on a Jermaine Coleman triple. They could not keep the lead, though. Coleman knocked down three threes in the game.
Overall, the Indy Heat had balance.
Ashton Williamson impacted the game as a slasher, passer, and rebounder. Tyler Williams scored inside and above the rim. Cooper Farrall started and gave the Indy Heat major production with 13 points and five rebounds. His athleticism and strength will allow him to continue to produce down the road.
