2022 Mt. Vernon High School guard Amhad Jarrard joined his twin, Armon, by committing to Matt Crenshaw and
IUPUI. Amhad began to receive high-major interest in July but decided to stay home and commit to the Jaguars instead of waiting on a power conference team to offer.
Jarrard possessed offers from Coastal Carolina,
Illinois-Chicago, SEMO,
Miami of Ohio, Wright State, and Canisius before selecting
IUPUI. In July,
Purdue watched all Jarrard’s games with G3 All-Indy and asked for his transcripts.
Xavier, Wichita State, and Cincinnati began to track him as well. Instead of waiting for those programs to offer, Jarrard jumped at the chance to stay home and play for
IUPUI.
At 6’3”, Jarrard has the size to play either guard position at the next level. In addition to his size, Jarrard’s athleticism will allow him to play anywhere. There is no doubt that Jarrard has high-major athleticism. Over the summer with Mt. Vernon and G3, Jarrard’s playmaking skills progressed dramatically. By July, he was passing at a high level while sprinkling outside shots off the dribble, and transition finishes into the mix as well. Those attributes piqued the interest of high-major coaches.
If Jarrard develops those tools, Crenshaw and
IUPUI will have a player to build their program around. That is how much potential Jarrard has. Although he is not a finished product right now, Jarrard can make strides to be an all-league player sooner rather than later.
