(Ryan Conwell in April)
2022 Pike High School and EG10 guard Ryan Conwell committed to South Florida on Sunday. His recruitment skyrocketed in July as he became a must-see prospect during the evaluation periods. However, after a few official visits, Conwell cut his recruitment short and committed to the Bulls.
South Florida is trying to regroup after losing its top five players to the transfer portal during the offseason. Indiana landed center Michael Durr, Alexis Yetna went to Seton Hall, Xavier Castaneda left for Akron, David Collins transferred to Clemson, and Justin Brown landed at UAB.
Caleb Murphy, a top 130 prospect out of high school, is back for his sophomore year. The athletic Murphy could pair well with Conwell down the road. Conwell is the first 2022 commitment for Brian Gregory and South Florida.
Last month, Conwell named a top ten list that included Appalachian State, Indiana State, Charlotte, Virginia Tech, Middle Tennessee State, Nevada, Murray State, Northern Kentucky, Wichita State, and South Florida.
Along with an official visit to South Florida, Conwell visited Murray State the last weekend of August and Appalachian State last weekend before making his college decision. There were talks of other visits, but they did not come to fruition.
Conwell is a lengthy, left-handed guard that shows instincts as a playmaker and a scorer. As a junior, he was primarily a spot-up shooter for Pike, but Conwell showed his versatility with EG10. As a senior, he will be the go-to player for Pike, and it looks like Conwell will be ready to carry the Red Devils this season.
