Indiana’s fourth all-time leading scorer
Luke Brown is transferring to
Ball State after leaving Stetson University. Before suiting up for Hatters, Brown decided to enter the transfer portal and eventually landed at
Ball State.
Brown had a storied high school career at Blackford as he turned a dismal Blackford program into back-to-back sectional winners. As a senior, Brown pushed Blackford to a semi-state appearance against 2A powerhouse Blackhawk Christian. Unfortunately, the talented guard scored 34 points in a tough loss to end his prep career.
Brown will sit out this year with the late transfer before having four years of eligibility beginning next season. He essentially becomes a part of
Ball State’s 2022 recruiting class with the expected redshirt season. That gives the
Ball State roster balance with its guards. With the free redshirt to all players last year, it is hard to project rosters for future years since players decide if they want to play an extra year. But Tyler Cochran,
Luke Bumbalough, and Demarius Jacobs will be upperclassmen next season when Brown is a redshirt freshman.
Ball State is looking to have a breakout season under James Whitford. Losing
Jarron Coleman and Ish El-Amin to the transfer portal will not make it easy, but the Cardinals have been on the brink of being a top-tier MAC team for the last handful of years.
Ball State hopes transfers like Brown, Cochran, and
Mickey Pearson will give them an extra boost to take the program to the next level.
