Jeffersonville's
Will Lovings-Watts (2022) committed to Drake University on Thursday. He picked the Bulldogs over Bradley, Murray State, Kent State, and UMass.
Throughout his high school career, Lovings-Watts attracted high-major interest. In July, power conference teams were checking out the
Indiana Elite wing. By the end of the evaluation period, teams like Drake, Murray State, and Bradley proved that they were the ones that wanted Lovings-Watts the most. With his commitment before the season, he ensures himself a spot on a team that genuinely wants him and not a program looking to fill a roster spot.
Lovings-Watts is an athletic six-foot-three-inch wing that defends multiple positions, rebounds, and scores going to the basket. He can also be a secondary ball-handler to relieve pressure. His outside shot was questioned during the recruiting process, but Lovings-Watts will be a productive player for Drake with or without reliable perimeter shooting.
Jeffersonville will have another strong team with Lovings-Watts, Brandon Rayzer-Moore, and Kobe Stoudemire leading the way. The Red Devils went 15-7 as Lovings-Watts averaged 16.3 points per game last year. Unfortunately, their season came to an end as Jeffersonville lost to Bloomington South in the regional by one point.
Lovings-Watts joins a long list of recent
Indiana natives going to Drake. Darian DeVries built a successful program behind the likes of Roman Penn (Bishop Noll/Bosco),
DJ Wilkins (Merrillville), Tremell Murphy (Griffith), Anthony Murphy (Griffith),
Jonah Jackson (Merrillville), and ShanQuan Hemphill (
Michigan City). All of those players were from the 219 area code in
Indiana, while Lovings-Watts represents southern
Indiana.
