Today, we break down the best un-committed shooting guards in the state for the 2014 class. James Blackmon, Jr. (Indiana) and Grant Evans (Wright State) are the only shooting guards that have made a college decision for basketball plus Justin Brent has decided to play football at Notre Dame.
Here is an in-depth report on the top 15 shooting guards in the state plus a recruiting update from most of them.

JaQuan Lyle, 6’4” Evansville Bosse High School, is a highly regarded player nationally. He now has over 15 high-major offers. There does not seem to be a leader for Lyle at this point. He is a great passer and can score in a variety of ways although he is not an elite athlete. There is a concern about his attitude, but that has not scared away many schools. There are also rumors that he will finish his high school career at a prep school, that is a rumor that he has denied up to this point.
Bryant McIntosh, 6’3” Greensburg High School, is another player that had a great spring. He is one of the best shooters in the state plus he has a great floater game. He is a good athlete and can play either the point or shooting guard position, but he is a scorer first. If he got to be about 6-5, he would likely get into the high-major talk. Current offers are Indiana State, Kent State, Western Michigan, Buffalo with Ball State, Missouri, and Ohio contacting him frequently.
Jeremie Tyler, 6’1” Indianapolis Tech High School, has always had the physical tools and the skill set to be a dominant player. In June and July, he started to be more aggressive instead of just settling for outside shots. That has led to offers from Vermont, New Orleans, Miami (OH), and IUPUI. I’m interested to see if he continues his aggressive play during the high school year or if he reverts to his old habit and plays passively when he is alongside Trey Lyles.
Daeshon Francis, 6’2” Lawrence North High School, one of the best finishers in the state especially for a guard. That was on full display against the super Team Thad team out of Memphis in the adidas Invitational before he was injured. He is a good athlete and a great defender. He must improve his outside shot to be a mid-major prospect. His shot needs a lot of work.
Saikou Jallow, 6’2” Bloomington High School North, Jallow shoots it well from the outside, smooth athlete, but doesn’t get to the rim consistently against top-level athletes like he will face at the next level. Not sure he is a big-time competitor either. He’s a nice low-major prospect. He recently visited Illinois-Chicago and IUPUI and will be visiting Toledo soon as well.
Michael Jones, 6’4” Indianapolis Tech High School, Jones really came along in July with Grassroots Indiana. He started to play with energy and looked to be into the game mentally. Those two things could not have been said for the last two years basically. He has a ton of natural talent and has started to showcase it again lately.
Evan Henry, 6’3” Columbus North High School, He’s mainly a catch and shoot player, but he has some dribble moves in his arsenal. He has a chance if he gets a lot stronger or grows a couple more inches. The strength would likely help his quickness. Henry is just too thin and not explosive enough to get to the rim against very good athletes. He reports interest from Indiana State, Indiana Wesleyan, South Dakota State, William & Mary, IPFW, Hillsdale, Hope College, Butler, and Wittenberg. No offers at this time.
Justin Mitchell, 6’3” Wayne High School, Mitchell is a player that we have not seen a lot of so far. He seems like a good athlete that will become even more athletic as he puts muscle on his frame. It seems like he will be able to gain muscle pretty easily. He failed to convert in the lane/in traffic consistently during the times we have seen him. That is where he excelled during the high school year.
Tyler Jenkins, 6’1” Hamilton Southeastern High School, Jenkins is another player that we have not gotten a good feel for yet. In the few times we have seen him, he has mainly scored in transition although he was not an above the rim finisher. He was also pretty good laterally on the defensive end. He seemed like a low-major type prospect, but we will need to see more of him to confirm that.
Arnold Wilson, 6’1” Gary West Side High School, Wilson is a good athlete that scored most of his points in the lane. He showed a nice floater and toughness to score against contact. He will need to improve his outside shooting to be a D1 prospect though or become more of a point guard. He is in the tweener phase right now.
Perry Fairrow, 6’3” Evansville Bosse High School, Fairrow has natural talent and potential, but he rarely goes hard if the ball is not in his hands. Defensively, he is rarely in a stance or working. I think it is going to be hard for him to reach his potential if he doesn’t seriously raise his intensity and energy level. IPFW has offered.
Cole Teal, 6’3” Chesterton High School, Teal is a pretty good looking athlete. He moves well laterally and seems to elevate decently. It also looks like he handles it pretty well. He is best known for his shooting ability as he shot over 40% from 3 this high school season. He is a player for D1’s to keep an eye on. Teal is also a high-academic prospect. He has mostly Ivy League interest at this point.
C.J. Coleman, 6’2” Mount Vernon High School, Good shooter although his form is not textbook. He struggles to handle the ball against pressure. He’s likely a low-major stretch right now.
Devin Chaudion, 6’2” Fishers High School, Chaudion can look like a player for stretches but then he tries to do too much and looks really bad. He has to learn to be aggressive while still playing within himself. Right now, when he draws two defenders he still tries to get the shot off instead of passing it to the open guy.
Malik Coles, 6’4” Connersville High School, is a pure athlete that does most of his damage around the basket. His perimeter skills must improve, but athletically, not many 2014 prospects are better than Coles. That gives him a great ceiling if he puts in the skill work. {/iACL}
