Here is a look at the top un-committed wing prospects in the 2014 class for Indiana. There are no small forwards in the state currently committed to a college. We break down the prospects in order along with their strengths, weaknesses, and recruiting updates.

Trevon Bluiett, 6’5” Park Tudor, is a nationally ranked player with a host of high-major offers. He has been a player that everyone has always questioned whether he will be able to guard at the next level, but he keeps playing well against top-level competition. Bluiett has become one of the best outside shooters in the state and his release has become much quicker over the last couple of years. Lateral quickness will always be a concern though.

Sam Logwood, 6’5” La Lumiere School, announced that he would transfer from Lawrence North to La Lumiere School in LaPorte a couple of weeks ago. Logwood is a fantastic athlete with great length to go along with it. He is mostly potential right now with inconsistent production. He’s more of a small forward, but lacks the skills to play on the perimeter right now. He has offers from Miami (OH), Radford, IUPUI, Buffalo, and New Orleans.

Sean Sellers, 6’5” Greensburg, is one of the most under-recruited players in the class. He can do a little bit of everything, shoots it well, can handle a little bit, and has proven that he can defend on the perimeter. He has some awkwardness to his game and it isn’t always fluid, but he gets it done in most circumstances. He has no offers at this point. Sellers did say that he will be trying to visit IUPUI, Valpo, and Morehead State in September although he has no dates set yet

Troy Spears, 6’4” Martinsville, de-committed from New Mexico prior to July and also has transferred from Park Tudor to Martinsville. He has always played up during the club season and he has never really played that well. He has some bright spots to his game, but he must improve a lot over the next two seasons to even be a good mid-major prospect.

Justin King, 6’5” Bowman Academy, wrote him off a little bit last spring when I thought he was done growing and figured his potential was mostly because of early maturation. It seems like he has grown though and is still very productive in the up-tempo game. He is all left-hand and must improve that to be a mid-major prospect. No offers right now.

Keaton Hendricks, 6’5” Bloomington South, Hendricks looks much better in a structured offense like Bloomington South runs. He did not look very good in the free lance/1 on 1 offense that he was running in the club season. He can really shoot it from the outside and is also good off the dribble. We expect him to have a big year for Bloomington South. Hendricks reports hearing from Indiana State, Wright State, Butler, Lehigh, Portland, Ohio, IUPUI, Indiana Wesleyan plus that he will going to IUPUI soon for a workout and will be at the IPFW and Purdue elite camps this weekend.

Aaron Korn, 6’4” Frankton, He is a true 6-4 with good length and athleticism. He is really good off the dribble getting to the basket or pulling up for a mid-range jumper. I think his athleticism is the thing that has surprised me the most. Korn has consistently gotten to the basket against solid athletes. He also always plays within himself on a very structured Fieldhouse Elite team. I’m interested to see how he develops over the next few years. Korn has an offer from Miami (OH).

Zack McRoberts, 6’5” Carmel, has grown a decent amount over the last year and is likely going to grow at least a couple more inches. He seems like a tough player and gets after although he is on the thin side. He is a good spot-up shooter. He is not a great athlete though. He’ll likely end up in the mid-major range, but that is assuming that he grows and his game continues to develop.McRoberts has no offers right now.

Jaraan Lands, 6’5” Warren Central, I like Lands when he is being aggressive going to the basket. I do not like his game when he settles for outside shots on a consistent basis, which is most of the time. He is not a consistent shooter from the outside. He has the quickness and ball-handling ability to do damage going to the basket especially with his size. Lands needs to get into better shape. That will make him a better athlete. He could end up as a mid-major prospect if he works hard. Lands has an offer from IUPUI and Indiana and Oklahoma State offered in the past. The Indiana offer is no longer on the table and I’m not sure about Oklahoma State.

Jacob Johnson, 6’5” Mooreseville, has some nice tools as he is a good athlete and plays hard. The skill set just isn’t to the point where he can produce against top-level competition consistently. His ball-handling and overall perimeter game need to improve in order to be a mid-major prospect. Johnson has an offer from Northern Colorado.

Jordan Garnett, 6’5” Warren Central, this spring and summer he showed off his improved perimeter skills. Those skills have really improved. They aren’t quite where they need to be, but the jump in skill level has been significant over the last year.  If he continues to improve, he will be a nice combo forward for the low-major level and possibly higher. He is tough, plays with energy, and is very athletic. Garnett thrives in the up-tempo style that his Spiece Indy Ice-Thompson team plays. Warren Central is more of a defensive, half-court team so he doesn’t get to run and finish in the open court very often. Garnett has no offers right now.

Nate Ritchie, 6’5” Northridge, Ritchie is a good athlete and a very good leaper. He is also a pretty good shooter. He definitely has physical talent, but needs to put it altogether. Ritchie has no offers right now. He reports that he has been in contact with Western Michigan, Ohio, Indiana State, Bucknell, William and Mary, Ball State, and Wright State.

Bryce Lienhoop, 6’5” Columbus East, gets to the basket consistently against good athletes. It is mostly off of straight line drives but he also has some hesitation and change of direction moves. He can also shoot it consistently from the outside. Lienhoop is a guy that you will watch and won’t blow you away but he will produce time after time.

Elliott Welmer, 6’7” Columbus North, He’s not a high-flyer or explosive off the bounce, but he is extremely long and moves pretty well. Welmer has shot the ball well from the outside in the few times that I have seen him. I’m not sure how tough he is at this point. He has a chance to be a mid-major prospect down the road though.

Terell Davis , 6’5” Lawrence North, Davis is athletic, strong, and plays very hard for the Indy Ice team. His perimeter game is improving, but still needs work. He has a chance to be a mid-major type wing if he continues to develop quickly. He will be getting more playing time with the Sam Logwood transfer as well.

Adam Kroot, 6’4” Brebeuf, is mainly an outside shooter against top-level competition. He has a chance to be really good, but his consistency must improve. He also is quick enough to get to the rim for easy baskets, but usually pulls up for mid-range jumpers. Getting to the rim more would help elevate his game because he would get to the line more as well. He is also a high-academic player. Yale and Vermont are showing the most interest and he will likely visit Vermont and Dartmouth in October.

Kendall Rollins, 6’6” Pike, I have not been very high on Rollins. He had little to no production this season for Pike and has not been very good this club season for Indy Ice. He is a good athlete and extremely long, but would rather just shoot outside jumpers than get to the rim. He is not explosive off the bounce. His length gives him a chance to be pretty good though.

Michael Loggan, 6’5” North Central, Loggan has a chance to be pretty good. He’s smart, but he over-thinks at times. He just needs to play. He is a good shooter and can shoot off the dribble. It will be interesting to see how his high school season develops. He might receive a bigger role with John Murry transferring to CCSE in California.

Bret Barclay, 6’6” Crown Point, inside/outside threat that is very active and plays tough. He is not a great athlete and lacks foot speed. He’s right on the border line of D1/D2…it will depend on how his skill set develops over the next two years.

Brandon Tonsoni, 6’4” Rossville, one of the best shooters in the state regardless of class. He excels with Grassroots because of the fact that Xavier Ringo and Nick Rogers can draw his defender into help and when he is open, it is likely going in. His drawback is his foot speed. To be a D1 prospect, he will need to improve that so that he can defend and get to the basket against good athletes.{/iACL}
