2024 Brownstown (Ind.) Central shooting guard Jack Benter committed to Purdue a couple of weeks after receiving an offer from the Boilers. Benter had offers from Indiana State and Liberty before picking Purdue.
Benter is a fantastic shooter that led Brownstown Central to a 3A regional appearance in 2022. Now, Brownstown Central is a 2A team and should have another deep run in the IHSAA tournament this season. Benter can put a team on his back with his shooting and overall scoring ability. He has plenty of size at the high school level to get shots off against defenders hounding him. Benter also does an excellent job of using his body to create separation for a catch and also while creating a shot.
Benter fits the mold of Sasha Stefanovic, Ryan Cline, Ryne Smith, and Dakota Mathias. Each of those players handled the ball frequently in high school before mainly playing off the ball at Purdue. At this point, Benter can shoot on the move but does not come off screens like Stefanovic and Cline did in high school. It will be interesting to see how that develops in his final two high school seasons and Purdue.
Once Purdue offered, it was a no-brainer for Benter to commit. The Boilermakers were the team that watched Benter the most as a sophomore and into the spring and summer. They made him a priority before many teams even started looking at 2024 prospects. Benter told me in June that he watched every Purdue game this past season. Add those together and there was not much reason for Benter to waste time before committing.
Benter made Indiana Basketball Source's all-sophomore first team along with Flory Bidunga, Tae Tae Johnson, Josiah Dunham, and KJ Windham.
