We had a chance to stop by Ben Davis High School on the west side of Indianapolis on Tuesday. Even though head coach Mark James would disagree with me...they do have a lot of talent in the program and should be pretty good this season. Here are some player notes from their workout.

Tony Wills (6’4” SG 2013 Illinois State-commit) might be close to 6-5 now. He is looking much more aggressive going to the basket. He is a smooth outside shooter, but athletic enough to finish strong above the rim.
Brennan Gillis (6’5” F 2015) is becoming more and more of a perimeter player. His strength is still around the basket right now, but his perimeter skills are improving dramatically. His shot is looking much better.
Jordan King (6’4” F 2013) might be a big factor for Ben Davis. He showed flashes over the summer of his potential. He is a great athlete and a very good mid-range shooter. If he plays with toughness and energy, he could do some great things this season. D2/NAIA prospect.
Jeff Wilson (5’11” PG 2013) did not show much today, but he is a good shooter and is also quick. If he plays up to his potential, he is tough. His effort is inconsistent though.
Deaire Tate (6’4” SF 2013) showed a little bit more than I thought he had in him on Tuesday. Inside/outside threat and an okay athlete…could help an NAIA/D3 program.
Deshon Tate (5’11” PG 2015) tough, young guard that played well on Tuesday. His brother is Deaire, so he might have some growing left. He made some tough moves and shots in the lane during the scrimmage.
Jason Solomon (6’3” SF 2015) is one of the good sophomores in the Ben Davis. Solomon has good length and is a good athlete. He might play junior varsity this season, but he could be a player to watch down the road.
Michael Beaty and Kendal Broome play football and were not at the open gym. They both will likely start for Ben Davis this season. {/iACL}
