Metro Indy Fall League: Week 1

Week 1 of the Metro Indy Basketball Fall League was a great one. The intensity in these settings are determined by the big name players and each year I’m astounded by how hard the top guys compete. Guys like Devin Davis, Ron Patterson, and Zak Irvin set the standard with their competitiveness. High energy level doesn’t always equal good basketball, but it is much more tolerable when mistakes are made.

Teams that I didn’t get to watch this week were…#2, #4, #9, #10, #11, #12, #15-18. Next week, I will make it a point to see those teams.

Here are 14 player evaluations from the first night of the league action..

Week 2 of the Metro Indy Fall Basketball League is in the books. Devin Davis, Jr. stole the show once again. He had a great first week and he might have been better this week. Davis had a SportsCenter top 10 type tip-dunk in one of the games. His overall game has been very impressive.

The surprise of the second week and maybe the whole league so far as been Cam Denny 6'6 PF Bedford North Lawrence 2013. He is a good athlete, can run well, handles it well, and can catch and shoot to 19 feet. I look forward to watching him closer over the next few weeks. He should definitely be on mid-major and low-major radars though.

This week marked the start of tournament play in the Metro Indy Basketball Fall League. The week was highlighted by the debut of Sam Logwood. Logwood ended up with a few highlight reel tip-dunks along with overall impressive play.

The best performance of the week that I witnessed was from Tyler Alderman. Alderman had a 36 point performance in the first tournament game. He not only played a great offensive game, but he also guarded Collin Hartman. Hartman ended up with only 9 points.

Here are some other player notes:

The third week of the Metro Indy Basketball Fall League was highlighted by the duel between Ron Patterson and Eron Harris. Both were spectacular, scoring in every way possible. The game was back and forth as Harris and Patterson matched buckets. Ryan Weber was also really good for Patterson’s team. It wasn’t enough though as Harris scored 29 points in his team’s victory.

Sunday was the final week of the Metro Indy Fall Basketball League at the Noblesville Boys & Girls Club. There were three championships: A (top 2 in pools), B (3rd and 4th in pool), and JV.

Coach Gentry’s team arrived in the championship game of the B bracket behind 40 points from Evansville-commit D.J. Balentine. Balentine had 9 3-pointers in the semi-final game. Balentine continued his dominance in the championship game. Balentine went for 27 in the final as Derrick Gentry’s team beat Brandon Mayse’s squad.

In the A bracket, Ramon Stallings team led by Eron Harris and Petey Balls were the only undefeated team in the regular season of the league. Team Stallings advanced to the championship game by beating Team Andershock 60-51. Harris had a 10-point run by himself in the third quarter. Balls and Jalen McCallum also played very well for Coach Stallings. Jaylon Brown scored 16 points for Team Andershock in the loss.

The other A semi-final matched Sherron Wilkerson’s team against Duke Pryor’s squad. Wilkerson’s team was headlined by Jared Drew and Darryl Baker while Pryor’s team had the Warren Central duo of Devin Davis and Brent Calhoun. This game was a defensive battle which is unheard of in a fall league. Wilkerson’s team edged out Team Pryor to advance to face Team Stallings in the championship of the A bracket.
