It is very rare for a Division 1 basketball player to slip through the cracks in Indiana. That is exactly what is happening with Anthony Johnson.

The Decatur Central senior is currently averaging 27.7 points per game. Some might assume those numbers are just a product of unlimited shots. Johnson is shooting 58% from 2-point range and 43% from 3-point range, so he is not just a gunner. By the way, he is also shooting 85% from the charity stripe. His efficiency is a combination of great athleticism and skill. He is explosive off the dribble and as a leaper.
Johnson isn't perfect. He needs to exert a better effort defensively. Also, he needs to cut down on his turnovers. Johnson's coach at Decatur Central, Joe Preda, believes his defensive effort will improve with maturity. Johnson definitely has the quickness and strength to defend either guard position at the D1 level if his effort is more consistent.
Currently, Johnson has no offers. He is hearing from two Division 1 programs in Tennessee-Martin and South Carolina Upstate. Vincennes University (junior college) and Anderson University (D3) have expressed interest as well. He is a mid-major stretch/low-major plus prospect. Many programs will be kicking themselves for not looking at Johnson down the road. {/iACL}
