2021 Indy Heat and South Bend Riley guard Blake Wesley is a high-major prospect that impressed at the Battle of the Brands. Here's a glimpse of his day against strong competition.
From start to finish Saturday, Indiana Basketball Source observed the Battle of the Brands between the top Indiana Elite and Indy Heat teams in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 classes. Here is a rundown of the day’s superlatives from an individual standpoint.
Dominant performance: Logan Duncomb – 6-9 – C – Indiana Elite 2021 – committed to Indiana
Heading into the final game of the day, the buzz around the gym was centered around the Trey Kaufman-Caleb Furst match-up. In the end, those two weren’t match-up against each very often. Instead, Duncomb stole the show as he took the action right at Furst from the tip. Duncomb’s length, strength, and touch proved too much for Furst and Indy Heat. When facing up, he was also able to put the ball on the floor for a couple dribbles to get to the basket. Behind Duncomb’s play a few minutes into the contest, Indiana Elite grabbed the lead and never looked back. The Indiana-bound center finished with 29 points after he scored 18 in the opening half. On top of his play in the paint, Duncomb went 11-12 from the free throw line. It was a performance that will raise Duncomb’s national profile.
Hammond’s Darrell Reed has three D1 offers but is flying under the radar of many colleges. This summer the 2021 forward is showcasing his game for Team Young & Relentless. What are his strengths? Which colleges are currently recruiting Reed? How does his game translate to the college level?
Reed is a throwback power forward with an insanely impressive wingspan. Because of his length, he’s able to play much bigger than his actual height. At the mid-major or lower level, Reed’s height isn’t going to be a deterrent. He has plenty of size, length, strength, and athleticism for conferences like the MAC.
2021 prospects Harold Woods and Blake Barker each recently received their first D1 offers. Indiana Basketball Source takes a dive into each player's game and college projection.
Recently, Hammond's Harold Woods was offered by IUPUI, while Columbus North's Blake Barker was offered by Army. Both players have a chance to make an impact at those schools or ones of a similar level. Barker is a terrific spot-up shooter that likes to use his physical strength to score going to the basket. Woods is a lanky wing that mixes spot-up shooting and slashing to the basket as well.
2021 power forward Trey Kaufman has received an offer from North Carolina. Over the years, the Tar Heels have offered many Indiana natives with players like Tyler Zeller, Sean May, and Eric Montross playing at UNC.
