(Jake LaRavia prior to his senior year at Lawrence Central)
Every year, there are around 1,000 D1 men's basketball transfers. This year, that number is expected to double as transfers will be given a waiver to play immediately plus the NCAA is giving all student-athletes the option of a free redshirt season. Already, many
Indiana natives are entering the transfer portal.
The biggest name is
Indiana State's Jake LaRavia. The Lawrence Central graduate had a meteoric rise between his junior year and senior season for the Bears. He went from a role player to a D1 prospect. He committed to Southern
Illinois-Edwardsville before a coaching change. He was an
Indiana All-Star and attracted major attention after he opened his recruitment, but LaRavia wanted to stay close to home. That is a major reason why he ended up at
Indiana State. As a sophomore this season, he was a second-team all-Missouri Valley player. In high school, he was best as a shooter and rim finisher. With the Sycamores, he did not look for his outside shot much.
