North Central and Team Teague 2022 point guard Leland Walker continues to gain scholarship offers. Yesterday, VCU, Ohio, and Florida International extended offers to the talented guard from Indianapolis.
Purdue's first in-state 2023 offer went to McCutcheon's Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn. The Indiana Elite point guard is Indiana Basketball Source's top-ranked prospect in the class.
Saturday, Columbus North and EG10 guard Blake Barker committed to Army-West Point. A week and half after Army offered, Barker decided to the Patriot League team.
After watching Indiana Elite 2022 against six solid teams this summer, Indiana Basketball Source breaks down each player from a college projection standpoint.
Mahaffey is a fascinating player and prospect. He’s 6’5”/6’6” with great feet. He’s an excellent ball-handler in traffic and has great vision. Mahaffey is also a top-tier defender that blocks shots and anticipates steals at a high level. Despite being a plus-athlete and great ball-handler, Mahaffey doesn’t look to score. Despite average form, he doesn’t make many shots outside of the lane. He also doesn’t have the aggressiveness to get to the basket on a regular basis. If Mahaffey had that mentality, he could get to the paint anytime he wanted. In six competitive games this summer, Mahaffey only averaged eight points per game. That’s crazy for a skilled and athletic player like Mahaffey. He rebounds better than most power forwards and is a tremendous passer. Those things plus his defense allow him to be a productive player despite his lack of scoring.
