The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association selected its first group of players of the week on Monday evening. Here is the press release.

Delta senior Tanner Lambert set a school record with a 45-point outburst and Cambridge City Lincoln junior Garrett Pumphrey posted three triple-doubles in three games to headline the winners in this week’s IBCA/Subway Player of the Week program.

Tanner and Pumphrey are joined by Lowell senior Nick Mantis, and Loogootee senior Tye Collins as honorees for Nov. 21-26 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Mantis is the boys’ recipient for District 1. Lambert and Pumphrey shared the boys’ District 2 award. Collins is the boys’  honorees for District 3.

Lambert accounted for his school-record 45-point outburst to go with three rebounds and five assists in just three quarters as Delta knocked off Union City 83-37 in its season opener. The 6-0 guard converted 16-of-24 shots from the field, 10-of-15 3-pointers and 3-of-3 free throws to eclipse the Eagles’ previous mark of 41 points set by Rob Robbins in 1997.

Pumphrey averaged 18.7 points, 16.7 rebounds and 11.0 blocks in three victories for Cambridge City Lincoln. First, the 6-8 junior tallied 13 points, 16 rebounds and 12 blocked shots as the Golden Eagles defeated Wes-Del 75-63. Pumphrey followed with 21 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 65-41 triumph over Anderson Prep. He completed his week with 22 points, 15 rebounds and 11 blocks in a 67-37 decision over Christel House Academy. Over three games, Pumphrey sank 23-of-42 field goals and 10-of-14 free throws.

The 6-4 Mantis scored 41 points as Lowell ran past Hanover Central 92-62 in its season opener. Mantis added four rebounds, five assists and five steals while shooting 16-of-21 from the field, 5-of-8 on 3-pointers and 4-of-6 on free throws for the Red Devils.

Collins averaged 23.0 points and 15.0 rebounds over two games in propelling Loogootee to the championship of the HBA/Stimulus Tipoff Classic. The 6-1 senior opened with 30 points, 20 rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Lions defeated Irvington Prep. Collins followed with 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 69-60 triumph over Rock Creek Academy for the championship. In two games, Collins was 17-of-32 from the floor and 12-of-16 on free throws.

This is the ninth season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program and the fifth season it is presented by Subway Restaurants of Indiana, a banner sponsor of the IBCA. Subway, in its sixth season as an IBCA sponsor, encourages athletes to "train hard and eat fresh."
