It was a great atmosphere from start to finish at Crispus Attucks on Thursday night. Tindley and Attucks put on a tremendous show for the packed house with the game coming down to the final possession.

Early on, it did not look like it would be a nail-biter. Attucks jumped out to an 11-0 lead with Jamal Harris, Alex Cooley and Teyon Scanlan all knocking down three-pointers. Attucks was fantastic throughout the first quarter. Nike Sibande had 10 points and six rebounds before the period ended.

Facing a 14-point deficit to start the quarter, Tindley turned up its play in the second period. Junior Eric Hunter led the way in the quarter and the game for Tindley. He took over the game in the second quarter with his shot-making ability. Hunter tallied 14 points in the period on his way to 22 points in the first half.

Sibande hit a three to finish the first half that gave Attucks a lead of that same amount during the halftime break. The second half was a battle between Sibande and Hunter trading baskets with Alex Cooley and Hunter White sprinkling in big plays for their respective teams.

It was a back and forth game for most of the third and fourth quarter. Teyon Scanlan knocked down a couple of free throws to give Attucks an eight point lead with six minutes left in the game. Hunter White and Eric Hunter led Tindley back from there.

The game was tied for the final 80 second of regulation. Each team had opportunities to win the game but came up empty.

Sibande set the tone in overtime with a steal and vicious dunk. Attucks built a six point lead behind Sibande’s play. Eric Hunter didn’t allow Tindley to go quietly. He continued to rain in jumpers. Hunter’s final bucket came with slightly more than a second left. It gave him 40 points in the game.

After a couple free throws by Attucks and a desperation heave by Hunter, Crispus Attucks walked away with the 89-86 victory. Nike Sibande led Attucks with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Alex Cooley added 19 in the win.

Eric Hunter had 40 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. Hunter White recorded 23 points and six rebounds in the loss.
