The most anticipated matchup of the sectional was the finale on Wednesday between defending 3A champion Crispus Attucks and Brebeuf. (Pictured: Broad Ripple's Xavier White)

It was a matchup of ranked teams. The game lived up to the billing, as the lead changed hands nine times with the largest margin being seven points in the fourth quarter.

The difference in the game was the free throw line, as Attucks outscored Brebeuf 21-7 at the stripe to overcome 8-20 three point shooting by the Braves. Four Tigers scored in double figures, with Derrick Briscoe leading the way with 14, Micah Poole scoring 13, Jamal Harris adding 12, and forward Jaiquan Edwards notching 10 points.

Brebeuf was led by senior guard Myja White, who scored 19 on the strength of 5-8 shooting from behind the arc. Forward Brennan Fitzgerald had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Brebeuf finishes the year at 14-9, while Attucks moves on to play Broad Ripple in a semifinal on Friday.

In Wednesday’s first game at Guerin Catholic, Broad Ripple got a huge game from senior guard Xavier White to move on to the Sectional 27 semifinals. White was on fire from the tip, hitting five three-pointers on five attempts in the opening period and scoring 17 of Broad Ripple’s 29 points in the frame. Caleb Brown added 16 points and Wyatt Gordon nearly recorded a double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds. The Rockets were playing without starting guard Amil-lion Wilburn, and his status for Friday night is unknown.

Northwest continued to battle throughout the game, but could not overcome 61% shooting from Broad Ripple and a 4/21 effort from behind the three-point line. Jason Hall led the Space Pioneers with 14 points and five assists. All 5’1 of Keen Reed added 14 points for Northwest, while forwards Terrell Adetunji and Jason Taylor went for 12 and 11 points, respectively.

This was the final game for Northwest, which is closing at the end of the school year. The Space Pioneers finished with a record of 4-19. Broad Ripple, who is also closing at the end of the school year, moves on to face Crispus Attucks in Friday’s second semifinal.
