2A #8 Bowman Academy travelled to 4A #4 Cathedral Tuesday night to open the 2020-2021 Indiana high school basketball season. With only parents in attendance, Cathedral held off a tough Bowman team, 80-58.

Bowman’s Koron Davis grabbed a Cathedral miss and drove it the length of the court for the game’s opening basket. It was a sign that Bowman was there to compete. Davis and Ajani Nixon came out of the gates hot for Bowman. The Eagles had the lead for a large part of the first quarter before Tayshawn Comer started to get going for Cathedral.

Comer had an excellent game. He scored six of the last eight for Cathedral in the opening period to give the Irish the lead. He finished with a game-high 20 points on 7-10 shooting and 3-4 from deep. That type of play is why he landed on Indiana Basketball Source’s preseason 4A all-state team.

The second period saw Bowman hang with Cathedral on the backs of Davis and Jevon France. A big wing, France was slashing and finishing at the basket. His playmaking gave Bowman a boost all game long. Comer and Pete Moe kept answering Davis and White to give Cathedral a slight lead at the half.

After not coming out in the first half, Davis started the second half on the bench for Bowman. During that stretch, Cathedral opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run. Jaxon Edwards have a big hand in the burst. The athletic 2022 wing made plays on both ends of the floor. He was really impressive attacking the basket off the dribble for a player of his size and length.

Once Cathedral opened a double-digit lead, Bowman didn’t have an answer. Jalen Johnson was knocking down shots. Moe continued to score at the basket, and Comer was locked in. By the end of the third, Cathedral was up 14. That trend continued into the fourth quarter as Cathedral rolled to an 80-58 victory.

Cathedral – Comer 20pts (7-10 FG, 3-4 3FG, 3-4FT), 3 assists, 2 turnovers; Vincent Brady 12pts (4-9 FG, 1-5 3FG, 3-4 FT), 6 rebs, 1 assist, 4 turnovers; Pete Moe 14 pts (4-7 FG, 0-1 3FG, 6-6 FT), 7 rebs, 1 assist, 1 steal; Jaxon Edwards 12 pts (6-9 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-3 FT), 3 rebs, 4 steals, 1 turnover; Jalen Johnson 12 pts (4-12 FG, 3-9 3FG, 1-2 FT), 6 rebs, 4 asts, 1 turnover; Sincere Germany 3pts, 4rebs, 2asts; Xavier Booker 7pts, 3blks, 2rebs
