Charlie Williams and Carmel jumped on Lawrence Central in the first quarter and never let up. The Greyhounds raced to a 72-43 victory in each team's first MIC game of the season.

Lawrence Central junior guard D'John Craig opened the scoring with a three-pointer, and it took Carmel nearly two minutes to get on the scoreboard, but the Greyhounds found their rhythm later in the first quarter. Williams scored Carmel's first bucket on a feed from Josh Whack. Then, the Greyhounds rattled off nine straight points, including five from senior guard Pete Suder, before LC answered with six consecutive points to tie the game at nine.

Williams, Suder, and Sam Orme provided most of the Carmel offense in the first quarter. In classic Greyhound fashion, the ball was moving around in a hurry which led to open looks time and again. By the end of the opening period, Carmel led 21-10, and things did not improve for the Bears.

A senior signed with William & Mary, Williams scored eight more points in the second quarter on his way to a game-high 23 points. He was 10-12 from the field and knocked down a three-pointer in the second half. It was a breakout game for a player that started the season slow in Carmel's first two games.

After being a scorer in the first, Suder became a distributor in the second half. He finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists as Carmel's lead ballooned after halftime.

Orme received a few of those Suder assists throughout the night. The junior forward knocked down four of his eight three-point attempts. He finished with 14 points and three blocks.

Lawrence Central battled until the end, but the Bears could not get shots to fall. Football star Joshua Mickens recorded a team-high 11 points but was just 5-12 from the field. Typically, Mickens overpowers opponents to better shooting performances.

Kamari Jones finished with nine points, as did Craig. Jacob Franklin added seven points.

By Indiana Basketball Source's count, Carmel assisted on 16 of its 25 made field goals while going 7-13 from beyond the arc.

Carmel is 2-1 on the season and plays Homestead at Brownsburg High School on Saturday at 4:45 pm. This is a rematch of the regional game from last season when Carmel handed Homestead its only loss of the season.
