While both Carmel and Pike are ranked in the top five of class 4A this week, the two teams have few similarities. Pike relies on heavy ball pressure, quick penetrating guards, and up tempo play, while Carmel runs a deliberate offense, solid defense, and has two of the best shooters in the state. It was sure to be a contrast of styles on the northwest side of Indy Wednesday night, and the team who was able to control the style of play would likely come out on top.

The opening stanza was controlled by Keegan Culp of Carmel. The 6'6 Air Force signee buried a couple of open three pointers then was able to get by his defender to hit a couple of floaters as well. Tahjai Teague of Pike would respond with eight points of his own in the first quarter. Teague hit a couple of deep three pointers, showcasing his range. The tempo was decidedly in Carmel's favor with a 17-12 score with the Greyhounds ahead.

Carmel was able to break the game open during the next eight minutes. After a Justin Roberts bucket early in the period, Carmel would put the clamps down. The visitors would outscore Pike 11-2, getting production from senior guard Ryan Cline. The 6'5 Cline was able to elevate over 5'11 Justin Thomas to hit a pair of jumpers and his height advantage also allowed him to find teammates for easy looks to the tune of five first half assists.

Pike looked like they were going to claw back into the game early in the second half. They were able to force several Carmel turnovers and really speed up the Greyhound guards. Justin Thomas picked Ryan Cline a couple of times for easy breakaway layups. The veteran leadership of Carmel would come to the forefront towards the end of the quarter as seniors Ryan Cline and Keegan Culp would connect, resulting in a pair of Culp threes.

Carmel would extend their lead to 20 at 54-34 early in the fourth before Pike would make one last run. They would cut the deficit to 14 with just over two and a half minutes remaining, nut time would run out on the Marion County champs, as Ryan Cline would close the game out from the stripe to give Carmel a 66-49 win.
