There has been a lot of drama around the Bowman Academy basketball team recently. The school fired head coach and athletic director Marvin Rea mid-season for an alleged unauthorized uniform order. Bowman dropped its first game without Rea on Tuesday. Cathedral was heading in the opposite direction heading into the game. Eron Gordon gained eligibility at the end of January. Cathedral has won both games since he put on the Cathedral uniform.

Early on it was a high-scoring affair with plenty of turnovers. Creating turnovers is how Bowman has scored for its entire history. The Eagles also started the game off shooting the ball from mid-range. Cathedral did enough scoring of its own behind Eron Gordon and Jordan Walker to take a four point lead to the second quarter.

Cathedral began to open the game up in the second period. The pace was slower and the Irish cut back on its own turnovers while forcing more on the defensive end. Austin Kendrick gave Cathedral a boost in the second quarter on his way to a solid game. He had seven points in the first half. The Irish ended the quarter on a mini-run, but they controlled the game in the period.

Most of the second half was played with Cathedral leading by ten to fifteen points. Bowman never went away. The Eagles played hard throughout the game. Gordon and Tra Landers were too much in the second half. Gordon went six of seven from the field in the second half on his way to a game-high 27 points. Landers scored most of his 14 points in the second half as well.

2016 guard Montrell Barfield played well for Bowman in the second half. He was able to get to the basket and free-throw line frequently for Bowman. He finished with a team-high 16 points.

Cathedral moved to 8-7 on the season including 3-0 with Eron Gordon. Bowman Academy fell to 2-12 heading into its game against Huntington Prep (W.V.) tomorrow.
