Poll Results: 2012 Most Talented Program

The class of 2012 has been discussed as one of the best in the history of Indiana high school basketball. I wouldn't go that far, but it is very deep that is for sure. They have more mid-major prospects than I have seen in recent history. If they continue to develop over the next 2 years, then they will be in the debate for the best of all-time. They still have a lot of work to do to get there though.

Poll Results

The North Central trio of D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Ronnie Johnson, and Patrick Ingram have run away with the most talented 2012 class title. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera was an instant impact player as a freshmen. Ronnie Johnson received some minutes on varsity as a frosh, but he really made a name for himself last year as a starter for the state championship team. Patrick Ingram was much like Johnson as he played some as a freshmen, but become a starter as a sophomore. DSR recently committed to Xavier while Johnson and Ingram both have multiple offers from mid-major programs.

Bowman Academy, also state champs in 2010, came in a distant second to North Central in the poll. Led by Dejuan Marrero, Bowman has four D1 prospects in the 2012 class alone. Marrero is the headliner and has been a force since he was a freshmen. Elijah Ray played most of last season as the sixth man while also starting some games. Ray is a "Charles Barkley" type power forward. He is big, wide and a rebounding machine but yet can handle the ball and hit shots from the outside although a bit undersized at 6'5. Mike Ford might be the most under-recruited player for his ability in 2012. He is a 6'4 SF/SG that can do it all. Ford is a lefty that can shoot it from deep and get to the rim with his great athleticism. He's a steal for a mid-major. Stephan Hawkins is the fourth member of the 2012 class for Bowman. He is a transfer from River Forest. He is a bit rare, but he has a great fundamental base and is extremely long. I know River Forest was not happy about him transferring and have been trying to block his eligibility. I have not heard any updates about this situation though. Bowman would be my pick for the best 2012 class because of their depth.

Rounding out the poll were Hamilton Southeastern with Gary Harris and Jacobby Bledsoe getting 5 votes, Lawrence Central headlined by Jeremy Hollowell with 3 votes, and Southport led by Mike Ramey and Kellon Thomas received 2 votes.
