Spring recruiting is in full swing. Players are picking up a lot of new interest after strong high school season. Coaches cannot attend AAU tournaments but they can watch work outs.
Speaking of college coaches, Wednesday was a big day for coaching moves. Dane Fife, formerly the IPFW head coach, took an assistant position with Michigan State University. IPFW immediately named associate head coach Tony Jasick the new head coach. I would expect Coach Jasick to retain assistants Dan Bere and Azeez Ali for his new staff.
IUPUI finally named longtime Ron Hunter assistant Todd Howard their new head coach. It was a move that seemed obvious to everyone in the coaching world and around the IUPUI program. Howard should have been named the new head coach as quickly as IPFW named Jasick their new head coach.
Adonis Filer 6'2" CG Bishop Noll 2011 confirmed that he will attend Brewster Academy this fall. Filer was named to the Indiana All-Star team despite just playing his senior year in Indiana. He will play this AAU season with SYF.
Michael Albrecht 6'1" PG Crown Point 2011 is likely heading to prep school unless he picks up a D1 offer this spring. He said Northern Illinois was in contact recently. Albrecht is also playing with SYF this spring/summer.
Jeremiah Jones 6'2" SG Merrillville 2011 said he is "pretty much committed" to Maine Central Institute. The finances just have to be ironed out. There were rumors of Jones attending Brewster with Filer but I don't think Brewster had room for both of them. Jones is playing with SYF this spring/summer.
Brian Stolarz 6'4" SF Munster 2011 plans to attend Indiana University for academics with the possibility of walking-on in the fall. Stolarz was recruited by St. Joe's College, Florida Southern, and DePauw.
D.J. Balentine 6'2" SG Kokomo 2012 reports that he has an offer from IPFW and will visit Valparaiso soon. Ball State, Cleveland State, Miami (OH), and Indiana State have been expressing the most interest right now according to Balentine. Stanford and Boston College have also contacted Balentine's EG Central Stars coach Pat Mullin.
Brent Calhoun 6'8" PF Warren Central 2012 has an Southern Illinois-Edwardsville offer along with interest from Drake, IPFW, Valpo, and Evansville.
Eron Harris 6'3" SG Lawrence North 2012 picked up an Evansville offer Monday. Ball State, Butler, IPFW, IUPUI, and Wright State have been in to see Harris lately. Harris will also be playing with Indiana Elite-Team Indiana now after the Jeremy Hollowell injury and a few other changes.
Sean Sellers 6'5" SF Greensburg 2014 Butler, Indiana, and Purdue were all scheduled to see Sellers this week.
Jaylon Brown 6'0" PG Fishers 2013 had Ohio in to see him Monday while Xavier and IUPUI were supposed to watch him Wednesday.
K.J. Walton 6'2" SG Brownsburg 2015 had Indiana University's Tom Crean in to see him this week.
Kellon Thomas 5'11" PG Southport 2012 was observed by IUPUI, IPFW, Georgia State, Loyola, Wright State, and Belmont this week.
Ryan Weber 6'6" SF Roncalli 2012 had Evansville and Loyola in to see him this week.
Michael Ramey 6'4" SG Southport 2012 had New Mexico and Nebraska in to see him workout this week.
