Grant Gelon made headlines at the adidas Invitational with his shooting for Indiana Elite Central. It led to scholarship offers from a number of mid-major programs. His performance also caught the eye of Indiana's Tom Crean. Gelon visited Indiana University on Wednesday and accepted the scholarship that he was offered during the trip. Grant Gelon has been known as an excellent shooter through his time at Crown Point High School. He shot over 50% as a sophomore and well over 40% as a junior.  So, he did not just develop into a shooter.

"He is a gifted shooter but he has not just relied on that gift," said Crown Point head coach Clint Swan. "He has worked very hard on his craft over the years and for this to pay off for him like it has is really exciting."

Before the Indiana University offer on Wednesday, Gelon had racked up offers from Illinois-Chicago, IUPUI, Toledo, Western Carolina, Western Michigan and Youngstown State. He visited Western Michigan and Illinois-Chicago last week. The Indiana scholarship changed the game for Gelon and he wasted no time before committing to the Big Ten school.

"We felt like, heading into the summer, if he could just get in front of the right person, that someone really big was probably going to offer him a scholarship," commented Swan. "He has a skill that translates no matter what level you are at."

The Indiana offer was not a surprise to many. The Hoosiers expressed interest in Gelon after the first week of the college coach evaluation period and the interest continued to build. "It was like a small flame and the fire kept getting bigger and bigger. By the time today rolled around, I really thought they were going to offer him a scholarship," Clint Swan said.

Grant Gelon is the first member of the 2016 recruiting class for Tom Crean and Indiana University.
