Seton Catholic's Desmond Bane selected in 2020 NBA Draft

The 2020 NBA Draft saw Richmond, Indiana native Desmond Bane selected in the first round. The Seton Catholic product had a stellar four-year career at TCU before being taken by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 30th overall pick.

In 144 games at TCU, Bane averaged 12.7 points and 4.7 rebounds. In his final season, Bane posted 16.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. Over the four years, he played a remarkable 30 minutes per game. For his career, Bane shot 43 percent from the three-point line. That's the biggest factor that pushed his NBA draft stock and potential. He goes to a Memphis team that needs another floor spacing guard to go with Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Brandon Clake.

Bane was the only Indiana native selected in the 2020 draft. Last year's draft was littered with Indiana players. Here's a look at the 2019 NBA Draft from an Indiana perspective. Isaiah Stewart attended La Lumiere for two years. The New York native was selected 16th by the Pistons. Xavier Tillman played with the Indiana-based club team Indy Heat before his senior year. Tillman was drafted in the second round by the Grizzlies as well.

Coming out of high school, Indiana Basketball Source missed on Bane. He was rated as a D1 prospect but not one that had high-major player that had NBA potential. He finished 16th in Indiana Basketball Source's 2016 player rankings. It was a solid class with Kyle Guy, CJ Walker, and others, but it wasn't strong enough to have a future NBA player rated as the 16th best prospect.

During his senior year at Seton Catholic, Bane picked up a bunch of low and mid-major offers - Ball State, Furman, Purdue-Fort Wayne, New Orleans, and more. He extended his recruitment into the spring to play an extra month of AAU with Indiana Elite's main 2017 team. He played well during that stretch and caught the eye of the newly hired TCU staff. The Horned Frogs offered Bane and the rest is history.
