IUPUI ended its coaching search by hiring former player and assistant coach Matt Crenshaw. For the last three seasons, Crenshaw was an assistant coach for Ball State.

As a player in 2003, he helped send IUPUI to the NCAA Tournament. He finished his career as the school's all-time assist leader. After his playing career ended, Crenshaw spent 12 years at IUPUI as an assistant coach. He helped recruit IUPUI's biggest star, George Hill. During Hill's final collegiate season, IUPUI went 26-7.

"IUPUI has meant so much to me over the course of my time here as a student-athlete, a coach, and alum. I am humbled and honored that Chancellor Paydar, Dr. Perry and, the search committee have given me this amazing opportunity to lead the men's basketball program," Crenshaw said. "We will strive to not only reach the same level of success as we've had in the past, but also make greater strides in the future."

"I look forward to rebuilding and growing the program. I'm ready to get to work."

For the past two seasons, Byron Rimm was IUPUI's interim coach. The Jaguars surprised many outsiders by going 8-10 this season and 7-9 in the Horizon League. IUPUI interviewed Rimm for the full-time job but decided to go in a different direction.

There is little doubt that Crenshaw knows IUPUI as well as anyone. He will also have the support of IUPUI's most influential alumnus, George Hill. That should give Crenshaw an extra boost while trying to build the program.
