Cathedral vs. Roncalli Notes

-Roncalli entered the game 16-3 after receiving a bye in the first round.

-Cathedral beat Lawrence North to advance to the sectional semi-finals.

-Roncalli was the more aggressive team early and was really physical with Cathedral.

-The Roncalli bigs (Ryan Weber, David Heckman, Cole Toner) caused major problems for Cathedral early.

-Roncalli led 14-4 after 1 quarter.

-They would stretch the lead to 18-6 early in the second quarter.

-Jared Drew and Mo Evans rallied Cathedral though and it was 20-20 at the half.

-The third quarter was a grind and very low scoring just like the first half.

-Roncalli led 31-30 after 3 quarters.

-Action and pace really stepped up in the fourth.

-Things really picked up when Mo Evans hit a 3 when Cathedral was down 2 with 1:40 left.

-After a Roncalli foul, Jared Drew hit both free-throws to put Cathedral up 47-44.

-It looked like freshman Jalen Coleman sealed the game up when he hit 2 free-throws with 18.7 seconds left to put Cathedral up 51-46.

-Roncalli pushed the ball up the court and Bradley Fey knocked down a 3 with 9.9 seconds on the clock.

-Coleman was sent to the line again, but this time he only hit 1 of 2.

-Fey got another look for 3 and after rattling around the rim and backboard it dropped as time expired to send the game into overtime.

-Cathedral jumped out to a lead in overtime eventually taking a 3 point lead.

-Ryan Weber took over though. He got two buckets and then was sent to the line where he hit 1 of 2.

-Just when it looked like the game was over…Roncalli up 4 and the clock running down, Josh Sullen banked a shot from 25 feet. Cathedral called a timeout with 1.6 seconds left

-Cole Toner was fouled without any time coming off the clock. He hit both free-throws and Cathedral called another timeout. A timeout that they didn’t have and resulted in a technical foul.

-Roncalli 63-58 in overtime.

-Cathedral ended the season 20-4.
